RIP Geoffers

by guy@yourgutfeeling.com 2. December 2011 17:40

Just heard the news this afternoon (Friday) that Geoffers passed away on Wednesday 30th November.

I saw him only a few weeks ago for his belated birthday lunch and he was still doing fine - albeit at the grand old age of 89.

I'll write more soon, but Geoffers was a great man who made the world a better place.  He did it by working his "quiet miracles" and massively improving people's lives.

Remember, I was given no hope by conventional medicine, and this 70-something guy turned it completely on its head, and got me well.

Rest in peace Geoffers, you're immortal for what you've done for so many people.

by guy@yourgutfeeling.com 20. November 2010 00:21

Hi Everyone

Here's an email I just recieved today ... very heartwarming.

Dear Guy,

My life had been put completely on hold for over two years as a result of the chronic symptoms that were diagnosed as collagenous colitis. I felt that my life was just draining away and the medical profession not being able to help.  That is when my daughter Sonja whom you know through Print Junction, discovered your book last Christmas.  Just reading it gave me hope and the strength to make a firm resolution to do my utmost to beat this debilitating condition of mine.  I religiously listened to Geoffrey Glassboro’s hypnotic induction every day at least once, which I found very the ectf and with thin calming and nurturing but also it seemed to give me the same focused feeling as in a very deep and intense prayer.  I had always firmly believed in our body’s miraculous power to heal itself and by June I started to feel a slight improvement and by July the diarrhoea stopped completely.  It was like a wonderful miracle to me!  Now I can lead a normal life again a motion!

Naturally, there was also a significant emotional issue to my condition, which I could see clearer over this time and which I managed to resolve also.

Before the onset of my colitis I had written a book for Sonja and my three grandsons describing my traumatic experiences during the Second World War and the escape of my family from the Soviet Union, which I had previously suppressed as I could never talk about it without breaking down. This factual as well as emotional outpouring whilst writing the book must have continued and manifested itself physically as well. Once this became clear to me the healing process together with my daily affirmations was able to start.

It was your book, Guy, that gave me the motivation to go on my healing journey and I am deeply grateful to you for passing on your inspirational story. I hope that it will give hope and the impetus and resolve to many other sufferers to heal themselves.

With kind regards and best wishes for your continuing good health,

"Guy, How Should I do the Rewind Technique?"

by guy@yourgutfeeling.com 21. September 2009 09:59

Hi Everyone

The word is getting out there and real people are making progress just by reading "Your Gut Feeling" and listening to the audio recordings.  This is an amazing feeling for me, and makes all the effort worthwhile.

Here's a question I keep gettting.  "Guy, how do I rewind?  What am I supposed to be rewinding?"

I guess I take these techniques for granted but these are valid questions that I now realize I must address in full.

The point of the Rewind Technique is to trivialise the issue that was causing the stress and bad thinking.  By making it trivial you disempower the perceived problem.  You literally shrink your perception of the stress-inducing issue down to a comic and minute scale so it doesn't affect you any more in a negative way, both emotionally and physically.  When you do the Rewind Technique right, you'll know about it ... because it will have a phenomenally fast beneficial effect on you physically.

Recently I was asked to "evaluate" a couple of people's rewinds to see if they're doing it right.

Question 1:

"Guy, I'm getting hassled by account handlers at work, so I might imagine myself being chased by a swarm of wasps with account handlers heads on them.  Is that imagery correct?"

My answer:

The idea is to trivialize and mock the thing that is bothering you.  What you’ve done there is to make the imagery such that it’s quite frightening!  No wonder you don’t laugh much during the rewind!  Remember, with the rewind, even when you play the movie from start to finish (before rewinding) the end of the clip sees you as surviving the episode intact.  That’s before you start rewinding.

Regarding the black and white movie, see it as it is or trivialise them.  So either it’s the image of you getting phone calls from them and getting a bit stressed, or it’s an image of them hassling you, which you can trivialise by making them into silly little gnomes.

When the rewind gets so fast that the reel snaps, you emerge from the whole thing fully associated, feeling big, strong, powerful, healthy and they are tiny little squeaking creatures submerged in concrete, ie utterly insignificant.

So something like this:

  • Do the Rewind process disassociated – ie the cinema process where you’re disassociated from the old black & white movie which shows the faint image of you being hassled by the gnomes, or whatever – but don’t make the problem scary or more than it actually is!
  • Rewind it from your vantage in the projection booth, looking down on yourself looking up at the screen (or looking down on yourself twice if you like – ie from the projection booth, to you at the back of the cinema, to you at the middle of the cinema, then onto the movie on the screen).
  • With the Rewind, you can go back and forth very quickly if you like with the main direction being backwards (almost like erasing the movie away) ... then when you’re ready each time, allow the film reel in the booth to snap
  • As the reel snaps feel yourself emerge triumphant, victorious, powerful, totally present yet forward looking to a wonderful future, huge in comparison to the old problem which is either non-existent or tiny (maybe faintly squeaking and buried in cement, never to trouble you again).

That’s the sort of thing you should be doing and you really should feel amazing and serene (if a bit zonked out!) at the end.

Question 2:

"Guy, does it matter if I visualise different things each time?  Or do I need to really focus specifically? When it come to the Rewinding, should I be visualising on a bad UC moment (there's a few to choose from!) - at the moment I've been running through the time I went in to see the consultant to be told I needed a colostomy ..."

My answer:

Ok, let's remember the purpose of the Rewind Technique and answer the question from that perspective.  We're looking to eliminate the bad thinking habits and replace them with constructive thinking routines where you've stopped all that negative self-argumentative looping nonsense that causes so much damage.

So, in your case, what's bothering you right now?  Are you running any routines today or recently that you know are serving you poorly?  If so, Rewind them.

And no, it doesn't matter if you change the imagery each time.  The point is this.  If you're doing it right, the thing that was bothering you shouldn't do so any more after a proper Rewind session.  It's that powerful. So ...

  • Identify what's been bothering you today or recently.
  • Create the imagery that's appropriate to it, in such a way that when you Rewind it, it's being trivialised and mocked.  Do not make the imagery scary.  You can either make it real like it was or make it something that's easy to render silly.  Either way, the Rewind is meant to make it silly so you don't attach so much power and importance to the problem any more.  In this way, the "problem" stops having that power over you.
  • Here's an example.  I used the Rewind Technique to give up sugar as I wanted more consistent energy - it's amazing what you can use the Rewind Technique for!  My imagery was a faint picture of me being held back by sugar.  At the end of the Rewind, I could feel myself released from the restrictive chains and there I was, like Superman almost!  Suffice to say that it was completely effortless to resist the lure of cakes, cookies and candies.  The imagery was right so job done.

By reading emails and questions that are being sent to me I'm actually learning more about what it is that I do to stay completely well.  Whenever I feel aggrieved or upset at something nowadays that I instinctively feel could create a problem, I literally smother the issue by using a combination of Rewinding and bombarding myself with positive literature like "Law of Attraction" type of stuff.  Even the books from Paul McKenna are great for helping to put our perceived problems in their proper context.  I then find myself overwhelmed with gratitude for whatever I'm doing at the time and really immersing myself in the moment, feeling grateful for what I'm seeing, hearing and feeling at that precise time.  I also monitor my thinking until I'm completely relaxed again and not bothered any more by what had been bothering me.

I know this is a long blog but there was no way to make it short!  It only recently occurred to me that I may take for granted the amount of effort that's required here.  But it's so worth it and it's so powerful.

In my next blog I'm going to give examples of scenarios of appropriate Rewinds for different scenarios - these are just to give you ideas - the best will come from your own imagination if you follow my guidelines above.

All the best

Guy

Stirring a Hornets' Nest

by guy@yourgutfeeling.com 16. September 2009 22:51

Hi Everyone

Looks like I've stirred up a hornets' nest out there with reactions ranging from wholly supportive to out-and-out attack.

The interesting thing is that the two attackers I've had from posters on other blogs today have not read Your Gut Feeling, not listened to the recordings, and yet they say they know everything about it.

The folks being supportive have been trying out my methods and are reporting varying degrees of progress.

I'm a sensitive guy and I confess the attackers upset me, but the supportive folks have reminded me why I wrote the book and created this website.

Now, for you football fans out there, I'm a mad Liverpool FC fan.  But I'm reminded of another team's manager and a priceless quote he once made:

Brian Clough, of Nottingham Forest fame, was asked on TV how he handled those players who disagreed with his methods.  "Well, I ask them what they think we're doing wrong, and what they think we should do instead.  We'll talk about it for 20 minutes and then we'll decide I was right"!

Genius!

How Much do You Really Want It?

by guy@yourgutfeeling.com 11. September 2009 15:42

Hi Everyone

We're starting to get some interesting feedback out there and people are reporting improvements just by listening to the recordings.  Now, it's clear that I do have somer pretty strong views about this subject, so let me clarify something that may have got slightly lost in translation.

Of course everyone “wants” to be well.  I get that.  But at the same time everyone “wants” to be rich, have a great relationship, and holiday in the Caribbean etc.

What I'm saying here is that there is a big difference between “wanting” something and REALLY MUST HAVING something and doing anything it takes to get it

How do I know the difference?  Well, when I really want something really badly I tend to get it.  I can measure my true desire for something by way of the energy and devotion and effort I put into it mentally, emotionally and physically in terms of ACTION.  When I merely “want” something, I may or may not get it.

And who do I look to for the answer as to why?  Me!  No-one else.  I then ask myself “how much do I really want this?”.  And if I really really want it then I crank up the desire, work on myself, use techniques to clear any obstacles and then live the goal in my mind until I'm truly emotional about it in an intense way.

Here’s a silly example.  I’ve had a fun and lazy summer!  But there are things I want to achieve.  And to get them I need to get back to work properly.  So I examined how much I really want these things.  I ask what would happen without them, and what would happen with them, get that real desire going and now I'm ready to (a) rewind anything that I feel may be in my way and (b) “emotionalize” the goals I'm seeking.

Within days I'm now doing the things that I need to do and it’s like I'm riding on a wave of momentum, being carried almost.  Being carried by my own energy which is making the ACTION side easier and almost a pleasure to do.  Because I'm focused on the end result, the ACTION is now exciting, as opposed to being a chore.

To get well from colitis I had to put EVERYTHING into it, particularly as there was no example for me to follow.  In effect I had to become the example and accept the inevitable ups and downs of trial and error.  Nothing was going to stop me, and that attitude was key to my (a) finding a solution; (b) implementing the solution; and (c) continuing the good work until it’s become a habit.

So, here's my question: have you done anything about this yet, or are you waiting for someone else to be the guinea pig on your behalf?  Because in my case I wouldn’t have waited a second.  As a minimum I’d be researching and trying things out (and remember, there was no Google when I had to do all this!).  In addition to "Your Gut Feeling" you should get two other books: “The Power of Now” and “The Power of a Single Thought”.  Neither of these books are hypey (like the Secret, which I also like - the DVD more than the book) and they both contain powerful wisdoms inside.

What you've read about me so far has got to be worth some action by now.  Sitting by and waiting for someone else is not showing the required desire.  Sure, reading this blog is a demonstration of “interest”, but that’s not enough.  There has to be ACTION and ENERGY.  My method requires a commitment and desire that becomes like a certainty of purpose.  With the Rewind Technique it is infinitely easier than what I had to do.

I sometimes hear people say they're scared such-and-such won't work.  I understand where they're coming from but being afraid of failure is a kop out.  Why?  Because my method involves zero risk and is open-ended until it starts to work.  Someone can continue with their medication and supervision until such time that the symptoms are noticeably better.  At that time the physician may agree to reduce the medication.  The goal is for you to be well and have no symptoms.  But saying “I just don’t want to be let down again” is akin to continuing to crawl on all-fours because the first time you tried to walk it didn’t work.

I hope this is helpful ... or at least thought-provoking!

All the best

Guy

Q&A Session with a Sceptic

by guy@yourgutfeeling.com 9. September 2009 13:52

Hi Everyone

Here are some questions I received the other day from someone who was a bit sceptical, which I thought I'd share here. I've changed the person's name for privacy purposes.  Notice how this chap mentions that he's a "relatively positive" bloke, and yet his questions are repetitively negative!  It's something I highlight back to him pretty bluntly so he can see what's happening with his thinking.  Enjoy the read!  My answers are in blue.

Q1.   "If I consider myself to be relatively positive in a general sense, will the hypnotherapy still be beneficial to my UC?"

Hi John ... being serious(!) how can you say you’re “relatively positive in a general sense” at the same time as saying in the same email: “Will my naturally cynical nature limit the effects of the therapy?” and “I am a jaded, world-weary, world-wary old bugger”?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and tease you with the idea that you’re not as “relatively positive” as you suggest!  Furthermore, I'm going to ask if you camouflage your natural cynicism with some sort of self-deprecating humour?

This is a chance to be brutally honest with yourself as my methods do rely on that.

I've had similar discussions with Martin about his desire to be well versus his almost aggressive scepticism.  It’s not uncommon, but consider this – and I said the same thing to Martin: something you truly desire (I hope) could have fallen right into your lap with this introduction to Your Gut Feeling.  As you can see, I'm a real guy who has (a) cured myself of UC and (b) helped others do the same.  For the sake of a book and website you can read a lot of material and figure out how real it is and how real I am.

When I was ill I grasped at EVERYTHING until I would find a solution – that was my attitude.  I wasn’t cynical or bitter about any of the ones that didn’t work – and of course none of them worked at all, until I stumbled upon Geoffrey's techniques.  My attitude was that every failure was a step nearer success.  Now, compare that to your “naturally cynical nature”!  You mentioned that you wouldn’t have even looked at my website without someone else's endorsement of it – in your position I would have been all over it in a flash, endorsement or not.

How about replacing your “naturally cynical nature” with a “naturally curious and open-minded nature”, combined with a single-minded determination to get completely well again?  For the purpose of achieving your goal here, you’ll find it’s much more constructive!

In every spiritual book (even the non-hypey ones) taking responsibility for your thoughts and actions is at the heart of the message.  I'm not religious in any way, however, deep down I believe we all know the truth of this, and the moment you take responsibility for what’s going on in your life is the moment you can start to have more input over what happens in it.  Two great books are “The Power of Now” and “The Power of a Single Thought”.

Q2.   "Is the therapy successful in breaking the tie between symptoms, mental response and behaviour; i.e. I feel a cramp, I think about it all day, anxiety sets in, symptoms apparently worsen... Could this be the root of negativity that will cause UC?"

This is part of your issue.  You have got into the habit of negative looping thinking.  Now, of course it’s easy and understandable to get anxious about a nasty pain or cramp.  However, as you start to understand how your mind works and how my method helps, you’ll find yourself in a virtuous cycle.  As your thinking is clearer and healthier (having stopped or radically reduced the negative looping thoughts) your body will begin to feel more comfortable.  In turn that gives you the encouragement to keep thinking in a healthier way.  Try to become the observer of your thoughts a bit more ... it’s very instructive.

Q3.   "Or... is it all about other issues? Does Guy feel that my UC is as a result of historical negativity - I'm struggling to come to terms with the idea that there is much negativity in my life outside of the UC"

As above, it’s all part of the same thing really.  Somehow, you’ve learnt to think in this self-destructive way.  That doesn’t make you a bad person – it’s actually a form of survival mechanism for whatever reason.  Often these habits are learned at a young age and in response to close relationships with family/partners, etc.  That’s not to shift the blame anywhere else, not even yourself.  But for some reason you got into a bad thinking habit.  Listen to your thoughts and be honest about what kind of thinker you are.  If nothing else, read your email to Martin!  I realise you think you’ve seen all the so-called cures that are possible but the fact is that you haven’t!  And instead of being excited about this, your tone in the email is full of cynicism!  Now, it’s time to get excited and curious.

Q4.  "What kind of time frame does the therapy work in? Is it really possible to see improvements rapidly? What is the rate of the disease returning after therapy?"

If you use the Rewind Technique properly in conjunction with my relaxation recordings this can work very quickly indeed.  I also want you to buy those two books I mentioned at the end of Question 1.  You need to read my book too ... preferably several times – particularly the Roadmap part.  Tricia Best had Crohn’s for 20 years and was housebound for around 70% of the time.  With her she was virtually better within a week or so.  She was completely committed to the Your Gut Feeling method and her breakthrough was doing the Rewind Technique with me.  Read her Review of my book for her account of what happened.

Martin is now making good progress (3 days of no bleeding) though his progress took a bit longer than Tricia's to manifest, but that’s for a couple of reasons.  Not only had Martin had the bag, but also he was highly sceptical – aggressive almost – with a stranger like me approaching him from out fo the blue!  Understandable perhaps, whereas Tricia’s husband knew me and what kind of guy I am, so she bought into the idea immediately without question.

If you get rid of the source of the problem you should stay fit.  That's the case with me and others including Tricia who's been fine now for over a year since she implemented these techniques so effectively.

Q5.  "In simple terms what is the minimum therapy Guy would recommend? Read the book? Do the free download? (Is he making money out of this? - I can't quite work it out on his website, but when you have seen so many of these miracle cure sites it is difficult not to be cynical...)"

Well, this is going to be a wholesale change in your view of the world, so in some ways it’s ongoing.  But to get results you need to get the package.  Read the book, even listen to the audio if you like too, so you can hear it with my voice.  Listen to one of the relaxations at least once per day for the first month.  When you’ve read the book and understand the method, do the Rewind Technique.  Really get into it and go for it ... you should be pretty zoned out by the end as it’s an intense exercise.

If you’re still hyper-cynical just get the book.  Then you’ll know for sure that I'm real.  Regarding the Rewind Technique, Martin had a couple of issues at what to point it at.  Follow the instructions in my book.  You point it at the representation of yourself having the negative destructive thoughts.  In your case it you could point it at your cynicism for one!  But you can do it multiple times at different areas until you start to notice tangible physical results.  When you point it in the right place, results happen remarkably fast.

Am I making money out of this?  Not yet!  I’ve spent $24,000 on this project so far, such is my commitment to it and my belief in it.  When it becomes profitable, then Geoffrey will get the lion’s share as he’s in his mid 80s and my gratitude to him is immense even after all these years and the fact that I’ve significantly improved on what I did with him to get better myself.

Q6.  "How often does he think that, perhaps, he is just in a lengthy period of remission? Would he totally refute this as a possibility?"

I never think in terms of remission – it’s a dirty word to me.  You’re either well or you’re not.  When you’re well, it’s just a question of staying well.  If you were to lurch back into bad thinking habits, that would be unhelpful of course.  But if you adopt what I'm saying and it works for you, then you create a new habit.  If you were to have any kind of setback having got well, you would know exactly what to do to get back on track.

What I do is a formula, and it works.  Use the formula to get well.  Then retain the good habits that the formula creates for you.

Again, your question is very negative and slightly repetitive, however, let me elaborate.  First, I’ve been well for over 13 years, which was also the last time I saw a doctor about it.  Once in a very occasional while (perhaps 3 times in 13 years), I’ve had “warning signs” where all was not completely well down there (though by no means full blown or too terrible).  Each time that happened, at the heart of it for some reason I’d re-started the negative looping thoughts for one reason or another that was pretty easy to identify.  On one occasion, something was happening in my life that was akin to a prolonged kind of emotional bullying I’d experienced earlier in my life.  We literally identified it, rewound it and trivialized it in a relaxed state and literally within 24 hours I was 100% fine again.  I also made sure the people who were doing this were out of my life immediately.  Somehow I'd attracted them or their behaviour into my orbit and it was time for me to recognize that and change it.

It was because of these episodes that I began to realize how fast one can make massive changes physically.  In a way they were a kind of gift and without them I probably wouldn’t have connected the Rewind Technique to a solution to all this.  The Rewind Technique was created for phobias.  However, what I discovered is that a phobia has the identical thought structure to what people with Crohn’s, colitis and IBS are doing.  Bad thinking habit leads to a
physical reaction.  Eliminate the bad thinking habit and then there's no physical reaction.  That’s the formula.

The trick is how to eliminate the bad thinking habit.  Well, you can do it with cognitive methods and hypnosis, which is how I got well, but that can take time and requires immense discipline and commitment.  Or you can do that AND the Rewind Technique and suddenly the results are massively accelerated provided you point the Rewind at the appropriate area.

Q7.    "Will my naturally cynical nature limit the effects of the therapy?  On the one hand I really want to believe that there is a simple therapy I can do that will end this fucking illness, whilst on the other I am a jaded, world-weary, world-wary old bugger..."

If you insist!  It’s really up to you ... an attitude change is preferable.  Here’s my question to you ... Do you really want to get better?  If you do, you’ll get on with it now and stop the cynicism.  If you’re not serious about this you’ll (continue to) make excuses!

Thanks to Martin's introduction, sometime amazing has fallen into your lap here.  Grasp the opportunity and only think about the result you want.

I trust I've answered your questions.  For the future it would be a good idea to focus them on how you're going to emulate what I and others have done to get ourselves better, don't you agree?!

Rewinding on-the-go - Instant Rewind!

by guy@yourgutfeeling.com 5. September 2009 08:42

Hi Everyone

In this post I want to elaborate on the magic of the Rewind Technique. I'll repeat this at the end, but if you're sceptical or new to this, then please do read the eBook/book so you can see how I became totally healthy again, and how I've helped others.

If you've read the book by now you'll know how the Rewind Technique works by way of "erasing" the particular negative looping thought that you direct it at.  By erasing that destructive pattern you give the gut a chance to heal, which it can do remarkably quickly - see Tricia Best's account in the Review Section of this site.

The great thing is that you can do the Rewind Technique on the go and even right when you "catch yourself" in the moment of one of those negative thinking loops. I'm assuming in this post that you've read the book and you know the structure.  So, here's what you do:

You've noticed that you're in one of those negative loops ...

  • Immediately visualize that negative thought pattern (don't worry too much what springs to mind) and push it out in front of you onto the old crackly black and white cinema screen. Play a movie of the visualisation forwards just one time and press stop at the end.
  • Retreat yourself to the middle of the movie theatre.
  • Now float out of yourself up and back to the projection booth where you can look down at yourself in the movie theatre looking up at that old black and white screen.
  • Take a deep breath, summon up the feelings of confidence, curiosity and amusement (see the instructions in the book, eBook and my Rewind Technique audio recording)
  • Now rewind that movie while looking down at yourself looking up at the old screen.  Keep rewinding, faster and faster and make it as ridiculous as you can!  Play something silly like the Benny Hill music in your head and at least make yourself smile with this process.  Keep the perspective of looking down from the projection booth onto yourself in the middle of the cinema looking up at the old movie that you're rewinding.
  • Stop, and as you stop you can even allow the film reel to snap as if it's rewound so much and so fast that the reel snaps.  Do this Rewind three times and notice each time if you're still bothered by the thing that was bothering you before when you caught yourself in that looping thought pattern. You should be in a state that doesn't really know what all the fuss was about!
  • Remember to follow up with a visualization/emotionalization of what you DO want.  IE to be totally fit and well again.  Really get into it and allow yourself to be supremely grateful for your recovery.

You should notice a difference within a few days.  If you find yourself lapsing into the negative thought patterns, do a quick Rewind on the spot like this - it only need take a couple of minutes for this type of "Instant Rewind".  However, if you're still finding yourself indulding in lots of negative thinking that could be making your condition worse, I would certainly encourage you to do the standard Rewind model as in my Rewind Technique audio recording.

There's real magic in this process.  If you're sceptical, just remember that people have used this technique to stunning effect.  If this is new to you, then buy the eBook right now and read how I conquered the problem myself and how I've helped others to do so.

All the best

Guy

5 Steps to Transforming yourself

by guy@yourgutfeeling.com 7. August 2009 16:25

Hi Everyone

Here are the 5 simple steps to transforming yourself and getting well from IBD:

1. Cultivate a determination and belief you can be well again.  Look at my example and be inspired by it.

2. Read the Your Gut Feeling book.

3. Listen to Geoffrey's or my relaxation session once every other day.

4. Listen to and participate full-on with the Rewind Technique recording.  Play full out and monitor how you feel after a few days.  If necessary do it again and really go to the max with it.

5. Be conscious of your breathing and your thoughts.  Make sure your breathing is steady, slower and deeper.  Entertain only positive pleasant thoughts.  If you find yourself arguing in your mind, ask if it's doing you any good.

Go for it ... others have and have gotten better ... now it's your turn ... you can do it!

All the best
